Manchester United XI Vs Marseille
2-8: Pre-Season Friendly for charity!

RATINGS:
Man Utd:
Fabian Barthez – Was a good laugh to see this top man back in net, didn’t do himself much harm for clubs scouting either haha, his usual habits of having lapses in concentration was evident when he kicked the ball against one of the Marseille striker and got lucky it didn’t rebound to another player. Still pulled off a couple of nice saves in the game and looked still looked as flexible as ever in his old age. - 7
Kevin Malcuit – Not too familiar with this young lad, think from a bit of research he plays for Monaco as a striker which was strange as he played right back today and looked really impressive, the only player that I didn’t know that stood out, looked really physically fit and got up and down the right hand side well throughout the game. - 7.5
Chris Smalling – Had a decent game today, not helped by a really inexperienced 2 central midfielders in front of him, but did ok, was really good at reading runs from opposition midfielders and cut quite a few through balls out also rarely lost a ball in the air. - 7
Phil Jones – Did ok today, could tell he is still trying to get used his new team mates, but in the air was never beaten all night, on the ground his clearances were good just once a weak clearance fell to the feet of the opposition striker but he couldn’t punish him and for the 1st Marseille goal he got attracted towards the ball and left a gap in behind which the opposition exploited to score. But overall not a bad display in a very disjointed match. - 6
Patrice Evra – Could tell that he was one of the top players on display today, despite getting booed on every touch for his involvement with the French national team at the world cup he played really well his usual flying up and down the left was great looked threatening and looks like he will have another top season at United. - 7
Yazid Mansouri – Again same as Malcuit earlier I wasn’t too familiar with this player but after a bit of research I find he’s a 33 year old Algeria international who has played 14 games for Coventry in the English league, didn’t really see too much of him during the game, apart from for Marseilles second goal he should’ve got a stronger tackle in to stop Ayew continuing to score. - 6
Idir Belhaid – Tried to research this player but I couldn’t find anything on him, he had a very similar game to Mansouri I saw him there but didn’t really seem to do much, a decent pass for park for a chance in the 1st half but didn’t do anything that really makes you think “yeah, he’s a decent player”. Still didn’t show himself to be a bad player. - 6
Chakhir Belghazouani – After a bit of research on this player I find that he is a 24 year-old midfielder, currently plying his trade for Tours FC in the French Ligue 2. Looked a really pacy player with plenty of running down the right wing throughout the game but with no real final ball, a couple of neat trick looked good but never really got in the game enough to get top marks. - 6.5Tom Cleverley – My MOTM! Really good showing from the Manchester United youngster today, impressed last season on loan at Wigan and seems an all round better player this year because of that. Played countless good passes throughout the game collecting an assist for Welbeck’s goal and also getting a goal for himself after a really neat one-two. Also showed he’s willing to get back and help out with the defensive side as well, tracked back well on a number of occasions, very very impressive display from this lad who looks to have a top future ahead of him. - 9
Danny Welbeck – Again we have another youngster trying to prove himself at Manchester United after a season out on loan and did himself no harm today with a great all action performance. Looks to be physically stronger than the last few times I’ve seen him play, held up the ball a lot better and brought other players into the game well. Managed to grab himself a good assist for Cleverly’s goal and also scored one for himself with a great finish in off the right hand post. – 8.5
Ji-Sung Park – Decent performance from the South Korean livewire, got stuck in well and got forward to great effect, defended well in his usual style and all action displays. Probably deserved a goal and maybe should’ve pulled the trigger instead of crossing when in on goal but a good display. - 7
David Ginola – Came on for a 15 minute cameo, and I don’t thin I saw him touch the ball :/ But great to see him back on the pitch was a great player to watch in his Spurs days! - 5
Paul Pogba – Came on in the left wing position for the second half, the noises coming out of Old Trafford is that this lad looks to have a really bright future. He showed glimpses of this today, a couple of mazy runs and one chance where he was in on the keeper but was at a tough angle and just couldn’t find a way past. - 6.5
A few other players played late on including some of these names which I’m not familiar with but they were all not top players and one was a singer, Dakora who came on and did ok had a shot that went wide but looked tired after 10 minutes. A player called Oliviera came on and didn’t look great a few mistakes but I wont judge him because I don’t even know if he is a player or not.
Was an enjoyable game to watch!
