Manchester United XI Vs Marseille
2-8: Pre-Season Friendly for charity!
02/08/2011
RATINGS:
Marseille:
Gennaro Bracigliano – Keeper, who played the first half for Marseille, did well with what he had to do, including a good save from a dipping Tom Cleverley shot. No chance with either of the goals. - 6.5

Jean-Phillipe Sabo – Played ok throughout the game, made no mistakes, didn’t really stand out as a top player but Solid defensively. -6

Nicolas Nkoulou – Quite impressed with this lad today, not only for his outstanding goal a cracking left footed volley from a corner that Barthez had absolutely no chance in saving but also for his strong defensive display, never really caught out all game, only undone by 2 cracking moves for the United goals that I cant really put any blame to him for. – 7.5

Stephane Mbia – Decent display from the former midfielder who has been transformed into a strong powerful central defender under Didier Deschamps. Strong in the air and in the tackle, looks a top player, would fit in well in the premier league I reckon. - 6.5

Cesar Azpilicueta – Early on this young right back really impressed me but as the game went on I could see exactly his strengths and weaknesses a very similar player to Glen Johnson, seems really strong and good on the ball when going forward but can be a bit suspect when defending and was caught out a couple times with Park Ji-Sung running at him but he’s only young and I’m sure he will get better with experience. – 6.5

Charles Kabore – Was really impressed with him today, he’s not really a player that stand out as been outstanding but what he did today he did really well, he kept the Marseille midfield ticking over and I don’t remember him ever giving the ball away once. Good performance from the Marseille captain for the night. – 7

Edouard Cisse – Did an ok job in midfield didn’t notice him as much as Kabore but still kept them ticking over well and looked like he had a bit of pace about him as well. - 6.5

Morgan Amalfitano – The game seemed to pass him by a bit at times, need to impose himself a bit more on the game to become a top player but showed glimpses of the quality that has got him towards the Marseille first team, a possible one to watch in the future. – 6.5

Billel Omrani – Had quite a strong game on the left wing, cut inside well on a few occasions but was also able to go down the line as well which kept the United right back guessing all game and sometimes wondering how to defend against him, had a good strike in the first half which Barthez saved well. Impressive. - 7

Jordan Ayew – A really strong display from this young lad today, I’m hearing big things from people about this player looks an impressive player and I’m sure it wont be long until top premier league clubs become interested in his services. 2 goals today and never stopped working all game great pace and work ethic. – 8.5

Chris Gadi – Another Youngish player making strides towards becoming a first team regular, again did no harm to that claim today, had a few strong runs at Evra and a good shot which had Barthez worried. – 6.5

Souleymane Diawara – Looked strong when he came on kept a clean sheet and can be very pleased with his nights work. – 6

Jeremy Monel – Came on at half time but didn’t really hear his name mentioned at all during commentary and don’t really know if I saw him do anything, I don’t feel I can give a review on him. - N/A

Benoit Cheyrou – Scored with his first touch! Really strong display from the former Liverpool man, 2 great goals, his first touch a volley from a corner into the top corner and then a goal 10 minutes later rounded off a top display. – 8.5

Lucho Gonzalez – A top player on his day has real great passing ability and grabbed an assist today from a corner which Diarra powered his header into the corner. – 7

Alou Diarra – Scored from a corner, a real powerhouse of a player I certainly wouldn’t want to be marked by him. A Strong display from the tough centre half and kept a clean sheet in his second half showing. – 7

Loic Remy – My MOTM! Cracking performance from another player who is been mentioned as a possible transfer target for top clubs around Europe. As soon as he stepped on the pitch you could feel the atmosphere change he seemed to create a buzz with the supporters and he was flying, everything he did he pulled off and scored 2 goals both of which were cracking finishes. I’m sure we’ll see this lad at a top European club in the future. - 9

Steve Mandanda – Did what he had to do well not really tested much, came out well to deny Paul Pogba late on but other than that a quiet second half for the French international – 6.5
